FOGHAT: Sonic Mojo (2023)

The legendary American-British group FOGHAT returns with a new album, including three tracks which were co-written with Kim Simmonds, the leader of SAVOY BROWN, who died in 2022. With this seventeenth album, FOGHAT has never sounded better American. Indeed, Sonic Mojo is clearly anchored in the American musical tradition, evolving between blues, rock, country, AOR. This sent the tribute full blast. A feeling reinforced by the fact that this album includes a good number of covers of American rock figures. But this is not a criticism, simply the observation of a “legendary” group in the US landscape which today finds the resources to release an album in these complicated times for rock. As for the personal titles, they are well inspired by other US groups, ZZ Top, a pinch of southern rock... but also by the Stones. Very nice album to listen to for fans but which will probably also please fans of US rock…
